8228333202_2df58bf9d3_zWinona State University’s College of Education, in conjunction with the Lewiston School District, St. Charles School District, Winona School District and Merchants Bank, will host the High School Personal Finance Quiz Bowl from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, in the Purple Rooms, Kryzsko Commons.

A team of four high school seniors will represent each school district in the competition. Each team will receive a unique scenario to research, analyze and use to develop a budget plan. The scenarios will be realistic and localized profiles.

In preparation for this competition, the students studied personal finance curriculum and hosted guest speakers from Merchants Bank and the Winona State University Financial Aid Office during the fall semester.

The competition includes a presentation of each team’s budget plan, a personal finance team trivia round, and a budget modification round based on the introduction of a life changing experience. The teams will then present their final budget plans..

Merchants Bank will award a scholarship to members of the winning team. Chris Farrell, economics editor of Marketplace Money, will moderate the event.

The winner will be announced at the beginning of the Chris Farrell Lyceum presentation.

This event is also in conjunction with the The Lyceum Series. Initiated in 1989, the series features internationally renowned speakers presenting on topics in the sciences, the arts, politics, literature, popular culture and more. The series hosts events that provide unique cultural enrichment and educational opportunities for the Winona and Rochester campus communities. Funding for the Lyceum Speaker Series is provided by WSU Student Activity Fees and the WSU Foundation.

This event is free and open to the public.
