The Winona State University Art Department will host the art exhibit “Arctic” through Wednesday, Feb. 12, in Paul Watkins Art Gallery.

The exhibit will showcase the work of artist Alina Jackiewicz-Kaczmarek. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 8 a.m.–4 p.m. and Wednesdays 8 a.m.–8 p.m.

Jackiewicz-Kaczmarek studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk, Poland, where she is currently a professor, practicing printmaking, drawing, painting and photographing nature. She has won 32 awards at national and international exhibitions, had more than 30 solo exhibitions, and participated in more than 120 group exhibitions in Poland and abroad.

The main theme and inspiration for Jackiewicz-Kaczmarek is natural habitats undisturbed by civilizations, and ocean sailing. She works mainly in aquatint, mezzotint and etching.

An artist talk will be held 5-6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, in the Science Laboratory Center, room 120. A reception will follow from 6-7 p.m. in the Watkins Gallery.
