Winona State University’s Inclusion and Diversity Office will host “Everybody Wanna be a Ni**a, But Nobody Wants to Be a Ni**er: The Historical Evolution of the word Ni**er,” with Marcellus Davis from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17 in Stark Hall, room 110.
This presentation uses the critical race theory as a lens to historical understanding of the most pejorative, exploited, offensive, socially accepted, and capitalistic word in the English dictionary. Davis will discuss a historical understanding of the word, present day critique of its usage in society, schools, universities and college campuses, its global popularity and this mis-education of supposed cultural appropriation.
Attendees should be prepared to hear extremely sensitive language.
