25709875400_09f9f1b245_zWinona State University announces the appointment of Chris Cichosz to the position of Director of Security.

A Winona native, Cichosz graduated from Cotter High School. He went on to receive an associate’s degree in Law Enforcement from Rochester Community and Technical College and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and sociology from the University of Wyoming. Cichosz also attended St. Cloud State University where he received his master’s degree in public safety executive leadership. Cichosz and his wife, Missy, have two sons, Jackson and Ryan.

Cichosz worked for the Winona County Sheriff’s Office in 2001. Other previous law enforcement appointments include: assistant detention deputy, patrol deputy, K-9 handler, narcotics/violent crimes investigator, chief deputy.

“I am excited for the opportunity to work on the WSU campus and become part of the WSU Family,” Cichosz said. “I have wanted to the chance to teach at a university and I believe I will have that opportunity in this new role as director of security. I have experience in numerous capacities within the criminal justice system, and I hope to share that knowledge with the students as they chart their future plans all the while enhancing the safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors on the WSU and Southeast Tech campuses.”

The appointment will be effective April 4. Cichosz replaces Don Walski, who previously served as Director of Security.
