Winona State University will host “A View of Yourself,” an art show for local artists with disabilities, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at Lourdes Hall – Room 155.

The event will feature art created by over 75 local artists with disabilities. Lydia Dawley of Decorah, Iowa, will serve as featured speaker. Dawley, a nationally recognized and well received advocate for persons with disabilities will speak about her experience with her disability and success in life.

The event was organized by students in Dr. Kelly Herold’s Disability, Communication and Culture class.

“Our class decided early on we wanted to celebrate disability and disability culture,” said Herold. “ As Warriors, we want to lead this community in learning about disability in a positive way.”

Additional event participants and sponsors include the Minnesota State Organization on Arts and Disability, Winona State University, Winona Area Public Schools and Project C.O.M.P.A.S.S., Funds to support came from the WSU Communication Studies department and WSU Sociology department

The celebration will include musical entertainment and refreshments.
