The Winona State University Department of Music Symphonic Wind Ensemble will present its annual mid-winter concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 1, in the Vivian R. Fusillo Main Stage Theatre in the Performing Arts Center.

The Symphonic Wind Ensemble, directed by Donald Lovejoy, will be joined by the Wabasha-Kellogg School District Band Program, grades 5-12, directed by Stephanie Scheibe. The groups will premiere “Anthem for the Winter Solstice,” a newly commissioned work by Anthony O’Toole. Scheibe initiated the commission and will conduct the performance.

The WSU band will perform additional pieces by O’Toole along with other works to include “Dance, Opus 10” by WSU alumnus Thomas C. Lang, “Air for Band” by Frank Erickson, and “Comic Tat-Too” by Phillipp Fahrbach.

The concert is free and open to the public.
