National Voter Registration Day is Sept. 23. More than 50 Winona State University students and community members will be on the WSU campus and in the Winona community helping people register to vote in this year’s election. They are working with the MSUSA (Minnesota State University Student Association) and the Winona chapter League of Women Voters.
Voters are encouraged to learn more about local elected officials by attending or viewing educational forums the League of Women Voters coordinates with the WSU American Democracy Project and the American Association of University Women.
The televised forums are held on the second floor of Winona City Hall at 7 p.m. and are aired live on Hiawatha Broadband Communications and Charter Cable government access channels.
The forum topics are as follows:
- Tuesday, Sept. 30, School Board – at large, district 1, 2
- Tuesday, Oct. 7, Winona City Government – City Council – at larger, ward 2,3
- Tuesday, Oct. 21 – Minnesota Legislature – House 28A & 21B
- Wednesday, Oct. 22 – Meet and Greet – Unopposed Candidates – County Recorder, County Attorney, Soil and Water – District 1, School Board District 2, and City Council – at large.
General Election polls are open Tuesday, Nov. 4 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
