The Winona State University Student Council for Exceptional Children hosted its sixth Annual Wheelchair Basketball Event Saturday, April 26, in the McCown Gymnasium.

Winona State Student Council for Exceptional Children is a college-based club that is dedicated to working together to advocate for individuals with disabilities. They serve campus, the Winona community, and the State of Minnesota through a wide variety of events that provide opportunities for members to gain organization and leadership skills and experience professional development that will enhance resumes and improve teaching skills.

Derek Klinkner, interim head coach of wheelchair basketball for the Southwest Minnesota State Univesrity (SMSU) Mustangs, gave a speech about the rules of the game and did a demonstration before the tournament. He was assisted by two of his students, David Nelson and David Evjen. At half time root beer floats were handed out and there were drawings for door prizes, including gift certificates to local restaurants.

This event was free and open to the public. Members of the community were encouraged to participate. Wazoo also made an appearance.
