Bryant_K._SmithIn celebration of Black History Month, Winona State University will host Bryant K. Smith in “Before and Beyond the Dream” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, in East Hall, Kryzsko Commons.

Bryant K. Smith is the author of five books, including his newest, “For My Sons & Brothers,” which is a compilation of letters to sons and brothers and the people that care about them. He has also served as an administrator and faculty member at five different colleges and universities.

“Before and Beyond the Dream” is a multimedia presentation that will teach the audience that there is positive proof that black history is world history.

Smith will also present “The Do Better Student Leadership Workshop” at 3:30 p.m. in Dining Rooms E, F and G in Kryzsko Commons. The main question addressed through the workshop will not be “what can we do better?” but rather “how can we do better?” Participants will be taught to think critically about their leadership skills and style. They will explore real world case studies to better understand the rights and responsibilities of being a part of an organization, and they will develop goals and strategies for success.

Sponsors for the events are: the Winona State University Inclusion and Diversity Office, Southeast Technical University and the KEAP Center.
