Winona State University professor Vanessa Fernandez-Greene will present “WSU Civic Action in Argentina” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, in Stark Hall Room 103.
WSU’s connection with Argentina began in the late 19th century when a group of graduates from Winona Normal School traveled to Argentina to refurbish the public school system in Argentina.
In recent years, current WSU faculty, staff and students have worked to reestablish the connection between WSU and schools in Argentina. Fernandez-Greene’s goal is to continue the legacy of service started by some of WSU’s earliest graduates and expand service opportunities in the Argentine education system.
The 2013-14 University Theme, Civic Action: Meeting the Challenge of Improving our World, is premised on the belief that “improving our world” requires both an acceptance of social responsibility and an active participation in meeting the challenges of a modern society.
