Winona State University CLASP lecture series will host Janice Sousa and Robin Wiszowaty for the presentations “Me to We: An Innovative Social Enterprise for Making a Difference” and “The Cutting Edge of Education in Rural Areas of Africa” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, in Stark Auditorium.
Sousa and Wiszowaty represent the organization Me to We, which is part of a family of organizations with the shared goal of empowering a generation to shift the world from “me” to “we” through action, giving, consumer choices, media consumption, and choice of experiences. Volunteers on international Me to We trips help build schools, speakers carry messages of action and hope, and leadership facilitators teach about youth leadership for global change.
Sousa is the Executive Director for Trips for Me to We, and is responsible for ensuring Me to We trips continue to be safe and accessible for thousands of students each year.
Wiszowaty is a motivational speaker, community development worker and author, and has devoted her life to helping others. She spent a year living in a Maasai village in Kenya in her early twenties, and has since led hundreds of people on international volunteer trips each year. Using her fieldwork experiences, Wiszowaty shares stories about the lives of rural Maasai community members and recounts real-life stories of hardship and innovation while outlining challenges and solutions for implementing education in rural areas
