The Winona State University American Democracy Project Committee will host a civic dialogue 1:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 9, in the second floor Media Center at Winona Senior High School.
WSU student-moderators have trained WSHS students to serve as moderators and facilitate the forum. The WSHS students will lead democratic discussions in small groups of students and community members, and encourage sharing and listening.
This dialogue will be one of the first in the nation to be facilitated by high school students on the issue of the role of public education in the 21st century. The event will be similar to the Civic Summit WSU hosted last spring, in which WSU students were the first to moderate democratic deliberation on “Shaping Our Future” and the role of higher education.
The forum is invitation-only. Expected attendees include WSU students, WSHS students, Winona Area Public Schools board members, WAPS faculty, WAPS administration and WSU faculty.
