The Winona State University-Rochester Social Work Department will offer a “Social Work Day” from 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at the Heintz Center, Rochester.

Social Work Day provides social work students and area human services professionals an opportunity to gather and earn free clock hours. The day will close with a special Winona State social Work and Alumni reception and networking session from 4:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m., which is open to the public.

Topics covered will range from “Social Work Career Tips and Employment” to “The Future of Social Services in Southeastern Minnesota,” with directors from Olmsted County Community and Social Services. Featured speaker Nick Espinosa, a Huffington Post blogger and community organizer who helped launch Occupy Minnesota, as well as Occupy Homes Minnesota, will speak on “Beyond the Band Aid: Grassroots Organizing and Systemic Change.”
