Winona State University’s premier speaker series, the Lyceum Series, will host journalist Jay Walljasper and composer Stephen Paulus in spring 2013.
The Lyceum Series aims to provide unique cultural enrichment and educational opportunities for the Winona and Rochester campus communities.
Walljasper is scheduled to present at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, in Stark Hall, room 103. Walljasper is the author of “All that We Share: A Field Guide to the Commons” and “The Great Neighborhood Book.” He will focus on how people can revitalize local communities, create strong partnerships in order to find solutions to local problems and learn to value the common areas that we all share within a community.
Composer Stephen Paulus will visit WSU as part of a Guest Artist Residency in conjunction with the WSU Music Department’s Gala Weekend in April. Paulus has been hailed by The New Yorker as “… a bright, fluent inventor with a ready lyric gift.” His prolific output of more than two hundred works is represented in many genres, including music for orchestra, chorus, chamber ensembles, solo voice and keyboard. Paulus is one of the most frequently recorded contemporary composers, with his music represented on more than fifty recordings.
