As we embark on a new year here at Winona State, I find myself thinking about community. This past fall, we made a decision to withdraw our request to locate our baseball field at East Lake Park, and this decision was made with the community in mind. I feel strongly that our future success is directly related to our relationship with our communities. I want to develop a vision for the future of our region, a vision that will emphasize and build on our shared strengths. Imagine for a moment a vision for 2025 in which Winona is identified as the arts and entertainment mecca in the Upper Midwest, a national center for education and teacher reforms, a thriving entrepreneurial hub, and the place to go for the coolest outdoor adventure and recreation options. I am convinced that if we base our future on a strong partnership with the community, this vision will become a reality.
