By now, you have probably heard about the expansion of the south end of Kryzsko Commons. This portion of the building, which includes Baldwin Lounge and the Bookstore, has remained the same since its construction in 1975, while our student enrollment has almost doubled. Our student needs have changed, and eight new student study and meeting rooms, along with expansion of the WSU Bookstore, will go a long way toward helping us meet those needs. Students have steered the project for several years. Their ideas shaped the final design, and they can look forward to using their new light-filled interactive study lounge in the fall of 2014. Some may question why this project is ahead of other needs. This project is financed through student fees and bookstore revenue; we don’t have to wait for the legislative capital bonding cycle to get approval. Another point of interest — this is the first building project on campus that will adhere to our new tree protection plan. Our campus is one of our most distinctive assets, and when we work together to make it the best it can be, we all benefit.
