Registration is now open for Grandparents University 2016, which will be Thursday, June 23 and Friday, June 24 on the Winona State University campus.
Grandparents University, sponsored by the WSU Retiree Center, is an opportunity for grandparents to explore college life with their grandchildren during a two-day intergenerational learning experience. Participants attend classes with WSU faculty and staff in an interactive, collaborative, and fun-filled environment. On campus housing in WSU’s Haake Hall will also be available.
Grandparents and grandchildren select a major of study and take classes during the two days in their selected field. This year’s majors are: Star (Wars) and Lasers: Exploring the Science of Light; Don’t Get “Stumped” in the Woods: Exploring WSU’s Hidden Forest; Un Viaje a Mexico: A Virtual Tour of our Neighbor to the South; Family Outdoor Adventures; Immersed in Art: Making Memories at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum; and Lego Mindstorms: Introduction to Robotics.
Participants do not have to be a grandparent to attend Grandparents University. Grandparents University is open to any “Grandfriend” (aunt, uncle, family friend) and special “Grandkid” (nieces, nephews, godchild or young family member). Grandparents University also will accept a trio of participants. Two grandparents can bring one grandchild or one grandparent can bring two grandchildren. All must be enrolled in the same major.
