fishWinona State University Fishing Team members Cade Laufenberg and Wyatt Stout won the Fish League Worldwide College Fishing Central Conference Championship on Carlyle Lake.

Laufenberg and Stout ended the two-day conference with a total of four bass weighing 12 pounds, 6 ounces. The victory earned the WSU Fishing Club $4,000 and qualified the team for the 2016 FLW College Fishing National Championship.

“Coming into this tournament, our main goal was to qualify to fish for the national title,” said Stout, a junior majoring in biology. “If we didn’t produce, we were done. That was the mindset we stayed in throughout the weekend.”

FLW College Fishing teams compete in qualifying tournaments located in one of five conferences – Central, Northern, Southern, Southeastern and Western. The top fifteen teams from each regular-season tournament will qualify for one of five Conference Championship tournaments. The top ten teams from each of the five Conference Championship tournaments will advance to the 2016 FLW College Fishing National Championship.
