Gao Hong began her musical career when she was only 12 years old. Gao graduated with honors from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, where she studied the pipa, a pear-shaped lute. Since then she has traveled all around the world from Europe to Australia performing solo concerts, with symphony orchestras, and at major festivals. Gao is also a sought-after composer and has received commissions from a number of organizations, including the American Composers Forum, the Walker Art Center, and the Twin Cities Public Television for a six-part series titled “Made in China.”
