bikeThe Winona State University Environmental Club and Sustainable Futures Theme will sponsor The Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters Bike Tour from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at the Alumni Gazebo.

The Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters was founded by local residents in Ely, Minn., and has grown into a national effort to prevent proposed sulfide-ore copper mining on the edges of the Boundary Waters and along waterways that flow into the Wilderness. The campaign is dedicated to permanently protecting wilderness-edge communities from the proposed Twin Metals Mine in the Boundary Waters’ watershed.

During the month of April, riders with the Bike Tour will pedal across the state from Winona to Ely, trailing a Wenonah canoe covered by signatures of supporters. Celebrate and send off the riders from Winona, hear more about the campaign, and support the cause of protecting the Boundary Waters.
