The Winona State University Department of Theatre and Dance will hold open auditions for the productions of “Speech and Debate” and “Dancescape 2013.”
Auditions for the play “Speech and Debate” by Stephen Karam will be held 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, and Thursday, Sept. 6, in the Dorothy B. Magnus Theatre in the Performing Arts Center.
“Speech and Debate” is a dark comedy that examines the struggles and triumphs of the modern high school world. This play contains adult content. Auditions will require readings from the script. Performance dates are Thursday, Nov. 29, through Saturday, Dec. 1, and Thursday, Dec. 6, through Saturday, Dec. 8. For more information, email Heather Williams.
Auditions for “Dancescape 2013” will be held 6-9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, and Wednesday, Sept. 5, in the Memorial 300 Dance Studio. Auditions will also be held Monday, Sept. 10 from 7-10 p.m. with guest artist Crystal Edwards, who holds her BFA in Dance from the University of Florida. She is currently a dancer for Diavlo Dance Theatre based in Los Angeles and Black Label Movement in Minneapolis. Edwards has been a guest artist at Hamline University and her choreography has been recognized at the American College Dance Festival Association Nationals in Washington, D.C.
“Dancescape 2013” will feature a collection of dance pieces by WSU students and faculty and a work by guest artist Crystal Edwards. Auditions require no preparation other than clothing to move in. Performance dates for “Dancescape 2013” are Thursday, Feb. 14, through Saturday, Feb. 16. For more information, email Gretchen Cohenour.
