The Winona State University Foundation has offered a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads directly to the safe return of the large oil painting that was reported missing from Somsen Hall in January.
The painting measures 32” x 48” and features a large sailing vessel and other ships in a bay or harbor. The untitled artwork is part of WSU’s Watkins Art Collection, and was painted in 1914 by artist Robert Pearson. It hung in a stairwell on the northwest side of Somsen Hall for almost 30 years. The report indicates that the painting may have disappeared some time between late November and mid-December.
If you have information about the painting’s whereabouts or the circumstances under which it was removed contact WSU Security at 507-457-5000 or email Don Walski, Director of Security, at dwalski@winona.edu.
