Grandparents University PicRegistration is now open for Grandparents University 2015, which will be held Thursday and Friday, June 25-26, on the Winona State University campus.

Grandparents University, sponsored by the WSU Retiree Center, is an intergenerational learning experience. Participants attend classes with WSU professors and have the option to stay in a WSU residence hall.

This year Grandparents University will feature five majors: Lego Mindstorms: Introduction to Robotics; Family Outdoor (And Indoor) Adventures; Mysterious Microbiology: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly; Telling Tales for the Stage; and The Science of Light.

“Family Outdoor (and Indoor) Adventures” will explore outdoor activities of the Upper Mississippi River Valley, including geocaching, canoeing, and kayaking. Other activities include a high ropes course and the opportunity to experience WSU’s brand new 6,000-square-foot indoor climbing center.

Participants do not need to be grandparents to attend Grandparents University. Grandparents University is open to any “Grandfriend” (aunt, uncle, family friend) and special “Grandkid” (nieces, nephews, godchild or young family member). Grandparents University also will accept trios of participants. Two grandparents can bring one child, or one grandparent can bring two children. All must be enrolled in the same major.
