This year’s Dancescape production features the work of student choreographers Corin Blazing, Kelly Douglas, Pedro Lander, Hannah Lefebvre, Kathryn Rudolph and Alyssa Sawinski. WSU dance alumni Sydney Swanson, Robbie Deering and Silviano Mayorga also will return to the stage to share their talents. The pieces range in movement, style, energy and genre.

“Sleep,” an interdisciplinary lyrical dance project by Kelly Douglas and Vance Dahl, features a live chorus of student vocalists from the Department of Music singing “Sleep” by Eric Whitacre.

The evening’s program includes new work by WSU Dance Director Gretchen Cohenour, guest artist Jacqueline Markevitch-Paulsen and Kim Neal Nofsinger of Shelter Dance Repertory Theatre, whose playful dance, “Inclined to Be That Way,” will be performed to the music of Patsy Cline.

Selected student works from Dancescape will represent the Theatre and Dance Department at the American College Dance Festival in March, including Lander’s “MindSwarm,” Sawinski’s “Lock and Key,” and Rudolph’s “Daddy’s Hands.”

Heidi Eckwall joins the production crew this year as a guest lighting designer. Eckwall is a Minneapolis-based professional lighting designer who designs lights primarily for dance companies such as the BodyCartography Project and Hijack. Student lightning designers are Vance Dahl, Robbie Deering, Casey Howe, Alex Tkachuk, Erin Zoromski and Sidney Junk, who also serves as the production’s Stage Manager in fulfillment of her senior capstone.
