Tracie_McMillanWinona State University welcomes author Tracie McMillan to a special keynote lecture titled “Food in America’s Working Class” at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, in Harriet Johnson Auditorium, Somsen Hall.

McMillan will also host a discussion as part of Professor Deb Cumberland’s English 309, Creative Non-Fiction Writing, at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, in Minné 350. To attend, email Cumberland at dcumberland@winona.edu.

McMillan wrote this year’s Common Book, titled The American Way of Eating. The book addresses the dilemma faced by many Americans who want to eat healthy food but aren’t sure they can afford it. McMillan explores labor, economics, politics, and social science to reveal new and surprising truths about how America’s food is grown, sold and prepared.

Following the lecture, there will be a short question and answer session, and McMillan will also sign books.
