The Winona State University Jazz Ensemble’s recent spring recruiting tour included performances at various high schools throughout Minnesota. The tour finished with a performance at the Minnesota Music Educator’s Association Mid-Winter Clinic at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The ensemble was specifically chosen by the association to perform and showcase their talents.

“Our students did a terrific job,” said Director Rich MacDonald. “They sounded fantastic and upheld the highest standards of our music department and the university.” MacDonald estimates the WSU students connected with more than 400 high school students on the tour.

The Jazz Ensemble is made up of an elite group of 18 students. Their majors range from biochemistry and science to business and music education. The ensemble musicians tackle difficult music and perform to the highest standard. They perform at two required campus concerts a year along with various smaller events throughout the year.
