The Winona State University Department of Music will host the elementary music workshop “Unleashing Potential Through the Creative Process” from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, in Performing Arts Center room 159.
The workshop will examine the idea that children’s understanding of melodic concepts can grow in complexity. It will explore how the use of playful problem solving with children can generate composition, improvisation and create a strong understanding of melodic concepts.
Workshop clinician Sharon Mazion is a teacher at Breck School in Minneapolis with a Master of Arts in Music Education. She has presented sessions on composition and improvisation and American Orff-Schulwerk national conferences.
The workshop costs $25 for registration. This is the second in a series of three elementary music workshops.
