Winona State University will kick off the 2013 University Theme, “Civic Action – Meeting the Challenge of Improving Our World,” with Activism Jam! 2013 from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, in the courtyard area by the Gazebo.
The event will feature an outdoor BBQ with music, community organization booths and a Democracy Wall celebrating the power of civic action. Attendees are encouraged to mingle and meet community members and find out ways to connect with them.
For WSU and for the Winona community, partnering around a year-long theme has proven to be an effective strategy for bringing faculty, staff, students and community members together. This year’s theme will promote and celebrate acceptance of social responsibility and active participation in meeting the challenges of a modern society.
Activism Jam! 2013 is free and open to the public.
A scavenger hunt will also be held to help students better understand “Civic Activism.” The hunt will bring students from the campus into the community and will conclude at the Activism Jam. Prizes include mugs, buttons and t-shirts as well as larger prizes for the first students to complete hunt.
To participate in the scavenger hunt, puzzle flyers will be available to students in front of the Student Activity Center. The scavenger hunt is sponsored by the Senior Graphic Design Team.
