The Winona State University Department of Music will present the Winona Oratorio Chorus singing “The Seasons” by Franz Joseph Haydn at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 27, on the Main Stage of the Performing Arts Center.
“The Seasons” is an oratorio version of the text written by Scottish poet James Thomson. “The Seasons” took three years to complete and became Haydn’s masterpiece.
Winona Oratorio Chorus will perform this illustrative oratorio in a new English translation by British musicologist Michael Pilkington. The oratorio’s text and music provide us with an exuberant proclamation of man’s acceptance of our reliance on and special relationship with the four seasons and nature.
The concert will be conducted by Professor of Music Harry Mechell.
Advance tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and can be purchased at www.winona.edu/arts or by calling the Box Office at 507-457-5235. Tickets can also be purchased at the door for $18 for adults, $12 for students.
