WSU-2013-GenericWinona State University will host a panel discussion about the experiences of first-generation college students at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, at WSU-Rochester, Coffman Rooms 206 and 208.

The panel will feature successful professionals from Crenlo, IBM, WSU and the Rochester community telling their stories and answering questions on beating the odds and becoming the first in their families to earn a four-year degree.

First-generation students are less likely to start college directly out of high school, and twice as likely to be financially independent compared to other college students. Combined, these factors often cause first-generation students to attend college part-time because they must work full-time while taking classes.

Panelists will include: Jeff Peterson, Robotics & Weld Engineering Manager at Crenlo, LLC; Kristi Ziegler, Campus Services Coordinator in Student and Campus Services, WSU-Rochester; Charleen Huber, Finance Program Manager at IBM; and Nikki Campbell, a certified personal trainer working in Rochester.

This event is sponsored by WSU’s First Generation Programming.

This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
