The performance of Winona State student-athletes in the classroom is starting to draw attention.
Winona State was listed as one of 11 colleges nationally with the smartest athletes by The Best Colleges. The website had the following to say about Warrior student-athletes:
“This public school in Minnesota was recently named one of the best regional universities in the country by U.S. News & World Report. Warrior athletes are certainly doing their part to make that so with their streak of six semesters breaking not the 3.0 but the 3.2 GPA mark. Their Fall 2012 marks were their best ever, with an average of 3.28. Sixty jocks earned perfect 4.0s and 135 made the Dean’s List.”
Four Winona State teams have cumulative grade point averages of 3.50 or higher while the WSU baseball team set a men’s sports record with a GPA of 3.23 during the Fall 2012 semester.
Over half of Winona State’s student-athletes – 54 percent – qualified for the Presidential Scholar Student-Athlete Award, which requires a grade point average of 3.20 or higher.
