The Winona State University Department of Mathematics and Statistics will host the first Midwest Undergraduate Data Analytics Competition (MUDAC) Saturday and Sunday, April 21-22, in Gildemeister Hall.
More than 50 undergraduate students from colleges and universities in the Midwest will utilize their data analysis skills to solve a problem of interest for Fastenal. Teams of students will work over an intense 24-hour period to complete an analysis, provide a written summary of their findings and prepare a brief oral presentation of their results.
“Data analytics, the process by which raw data is turned into useful information, is becoming increasingly important in today’s job market,” said MUDAC director Chris Malone. “Data is everywhere, but knowing how to extract and communicate relevant information from data is a skill few possess. This data analytics competition will bring together future analysts from around the Midwest and allow them to showcase their sought-after talents.”
More than $500 in prizes will be awarded to competition participants.
