Jennifer Flowers’ journey back to Winona State as the first female Director of Athletics is more than a career milestone—it’s a homecoming. A proud Warrior alum and former volleyball captain, Flowers credits Winona State University with shaping her dreams and preparing her for leadership.
Her approach to athletics administration reflects lessons learned through diverse roles and challenges, including navigating the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Every experience matters,” she says. “Leading through difficult times taught me to slow down and understand how one decision impacts the next.”
Flowers’ philosophy centers on holistic success for student-athletes: earning a degree remains the ultimate goal, while athletics serves as a vessel for growth.
“We strive to create the best environment for each student-athlete to be the best version of themselves,” she explains.
In her first year, Flowers is focused on elevating Warrior pride and strengthening community engagement – the heart of the Warrior Way. Her five-year vision is bold: position Winona State Athletics among the nation’s best through competitive excellence, strong recruitment, and storytelling that celebrates Warrior achievements.
Fun fact? Flowers was a dual-sport athlete during her freshman year and even hit a home run for Warrior softball.
“Being a two-sport college athlete – even for a year – was the coolest experience!”
As she leads Warrior Athletics into a new era, Flowers embodies the values of community, kindness, and support that define Winona State. Her message is clear: “I take on my role each day believing in the responsibility I have to help our coaches, staff, and most importantly our student-athletes chase their dreams.”
