Winona State University will host a one-day symposium exploring the rapidly evolving role of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. The symposium is hosted by the College of Education and will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at Winona State’s Education Village.

Designed for PK-12 educators, undergraduate aspiring teachers, and education professors, the symposium offers a unique opportunity to learn about current and emerging AI technologies, discuss practical applications in the classroom, and examine the legal and ethical considerations of the use of AI in education.

The symposium will feature three focused tracks:

  • Basic AI Tools and Integration into Instruction — An introduction to today’s leading AI tools and strategies for seamlessly integrating them into the instructional process.
  • Emerging Tools in AI and XR — An exploration of next-generation educational technology, including extended reality (XR), augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), and AI agents.
  • Ethics and Law Around AI — Timely discussions exploring the ethical and legal considerations surrounding the use of AI in education.

The event will feature keynote speaker Dr. Sadie Gunnink, an award-winning educator and innovator with over 15 years of experience in K–12 classrooms, higher education, and educational technology startups.

Dr. Gunnink’s work focuses on making complex innovations understandable and usable for the everyday educator, empowering teachers to embrace technology, not fear it – with humor, heart, and hands-on strategies educators can use today.
