Winona State University invites the community to join in for free Outdoor Adventure Open Houses, held from 4 to 7 p.m. every Tuesday until Oct. 29, at the Outdoor Education and Recreation Center (OERC).

Attendees have access to various outdoor activities, including a climbing wall, high ropes course, and mountain bike skills course. All activities are designed to promote an active, healthy lifestyle and encourage community engagement.

Winona State began hosting Outdoor Adventure Open Houses in September, with a goal of engaging students and the greater community in opportunities that inspire an active and healthy lifestyle.

Alice Harnly, a first-year student at Winona State who is studying Elementary Education, described her experience as both empowering and memorable.

“We are given the opportunity to push ourselves outside of our comfort zone, but because each person’s comfort zone looks different, it is up to each individual to what degree or level they desire to challenge themselves,” said Harnly. “You simply get to push yourself while still having fun in the process.”

Event Details for Participants:

  • Climbing Wall: All participants must sign a participant agreement waiver upon arrival.
  • High Ropes Course: Open to individuals aged 10 and up. An Assumption of Risk form is required to participate. Participants will complete a “ground school” session to ensure safe use of the course.
  • Mountain Bike Skills Course: Participants are welcome to bring their own bike or use one provided (limited sizes available). The course will feature ramps, rollers, and other elements to help build and develop biking skills.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic and connect with families, students, and community members.
