The Winona State University Department of Physics will host “Cold Atoms in Europe” at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, Pasteur Hall, room 129.
Jeremy Armstrong, assistant professor of physics at WSU, will discuss research projects conducted during his post-doctorate at Lund University in Sweden and Aarhus University in Denmark. Armstrong will introduce the field of cold atom physics, which has grown since the realization of Bose-Einstein condensates in the laboratory in 1995. Since then, the field has moved on from the study of condensates and their properties to simulation of other quantum systems with optical lattices, quantum computing and the study of few-body systems.
The presentation is free and open to the public.
