Rebecca Olson, a native of La Crescent, enrolled at Winona State University with high expectations. She wanted classes with real-world situations and experiences, and found exactly that in the Marketing and Music departments.
Through her courses at WSU, Olson was given the opportunity to work on promotional planning and marketing for Plainview Historical Society, Midwest Music Fest, and projects benefiting local businesses.
“Not only did Winona State prepare me academically, but I also learned the responsibilities of living a healthy lifestyle, staying dependable, and helping the community,” Olson said.
With the guidance of two professors, Greg Neidhart and Robert Newberry, Olson was challenged in the classroom, and took on leadership roles in various clubs and organizations at WSU, including the Percussion Club, Music Business Club, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Wenonah Players.
Olson will participate in the Fall 2015 Commencement ceremony Dec. 11. After graduation, she plans to dedicate herself to growing the business she launched, MuseMarks, a company that consults musicians on their marketing. She’s eager to apply all that she’s learned and to combine her passions for marketing and her knowledge of the music business.
“I feel prepared to start consulting artists, especially musicians, on their marketing goals. I’ve always wanted to be my own boss.”
