Winona State University will now offer an online Pharmacy Technician training program in partnership with Career Step, an online provider of career-focused education and corporate training.
WSU’s program, offered through its Adult & Continuing Education Department (ACE), is specifically designed to prepare students for careers in the pharmacy technician field. The curriculum has been approved by the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy and prepares students to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Exam upon graduation. The curriculum also incorporates feedback from employers.
“We are very excited about our new online Pharmacy Technician training program,” said Diane Dingfelder, Executive Director of WSU’s Adult & Continuing Education Department (ACE). “We believe the flexibility of online training and the prospect of preparing for a new career in just a few months will appeal to many students.”
Because the program provides job-focused training in a growing career field, the new Pharmacy Technician program is an excellent choice for those looking to train relatively quickly for a new career, said Dingfelder.
The pharmacy technician career is a rapidly growing healthcare sector. The U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics expects it to generate over 70,000 new jobs by 2022 and reports that professionals in this field earn average annual salaries of over $31,000.
“We firmly believe that education is one of the best ways for people to improve their lives, and we are excited about this partnership with Winona State University because it brings the opportunity to train for a new career to more people,” said Ryan Ewer, Career Step Vice President of Academic Partnerships. “This partnership is great for Career Step and Winona State University, but really what it comes down to and what we’re really excited about is the life-changing opportunity it represents for individuals in the community.”
