The Winona State Department of Music will host the Elementary Music Workshop, “Listening Critically and Responding Creatively,” from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 18, in Performing Arts Center room 159.
Participants in the workshop will learn to engage their students in musical thinking through movement, writing, reading, visual art and mapping musical works. The tools taught in this workshop will help teach students how to reflect and describe music as they develop their understanding and become musically independent learners.
The strategies in this workshop will address Minnesota State Music Standards for K-12 students.
Workshop Clinician Joanna Cortright, a music and arts education consultant, was an Arts Education Specialist at the Perpich Center for Arts Education (link to website), a Minnesota State agency, and arts coordinator and music specialist at Linwood A+ Elementary School in St. Paul, Minn. She also served as an arts coach for teams of artists and teachers in Minneapolis and St. Paul public schools planning arts learning projects for students.
Registration fee is $25.
