Three Winona State University rugby players were recently named to USA Rugby All-American Honors lists.
Megan Wingert, Plainview, Minn., and Amy Gadient, Zumbrota, Minn., were presented with the title of Academic All-Americans, student-athletes who are top performers in academics as well as major contributors to their rugby program. Any rugby player who is considered a consistent starter on their college or university’s rugby team, who is at least in her junior year and who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.7 out of 4.0 or higher is eligible to be an Academic All-American.
Wingert and Ashley Nelson, Minneapolis, Minn., were named to the 2011-12 list of Women’s Collegiate All-Americans. These 22 Division II student-athletes are recognized as the best collegiate women’s rugby players in the country.
Wingert is one of only three women in the country to receive All-American honors for both academics and playing.
Wingert, Gadient and Nelson are senior nursing students at WSU.
