The Winona State University Department of Geoscience will host “Geologist Spurns Big Oil, Ends Up Wasted On Drugs” with Barb Bickford at 4 p.m., Monday, Oct. 13, in Science Laboratory Center 120. The event is part of the weekly Earth Talks speaker series.
Bickford is a 1979 alumna of the WSU Geoscience Program and is employed as a groundwater specialist by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. She graduated from WSU at the peak of a job boom in the oil industry that drew many of her peers into petroleum-related careers. Bickford will discuss her choice to pursue a career in groundwater geology and some of her experiences, including monitoring pharmaceutical contaminants in Wisconsin groundwater.
