The Winona State University International Music Series will host Pipa Music of China with Gao Hong at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, in the Performing Arts Center Recital Hall.
Gao Hong began her musical career when she was only 12 years old. Gao graduated with honors from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, where she studied the pipa, a pear-shaped lute. Since then she has traveled all around the world from Europe to Australia performing solo concerts, with symphony orchestras, and at major festivals. Gao is also a sought after composer and has received commissions from a number of organizations including the American Composers Forum, the Walker Art Center, and the Twin Cities Public Television for a six-part series titled “Made in China.”
Admission is free and open to the public.
