Winona State University will participate in the Winona Area Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Crosswalk Safety event Thursday, Sept. 18, at various locations in Winona.
The event will promote pedestrian safety by demonstrating the proper use of a crosswalk and providing safety tips for pedestrians and motorists. Event participants will legally cross in a predetermined crosswalk holding a banner visible to pedestrians and motorists.
The campaign aims to increase the percentage of motorists and pedestrians who follow the Minnesota crosswalk law and exhibit safe walking and driving behaviors, including pedestrians making eye contact with drivers before proceeding into the crosswalk and motorists always being prepared to stop for crossing pedestrians at every corner. These behaviors help reduce the incidence of pedestrian-vehicle crashes.
The event will take place at the following times and locations: 7 to 9 a.m., Main Street and 7th; 7 to 9 a.m., Huff Street and 9th; 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Main St and 4th St; 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Lafayette and 2nd St; 4 to 6 p.m., Main Street and 11th; and 4 to 6 p.m., Lafayette and Broadway.
