The Winona State University Astronomy Club will host Astronomy Night from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the park office at Great River Bluffs State Park approximately 20 miles southeast of Winona at the junction of U.S. Highway 61 and Interstate 90.
Jennifer Anderson, WSU associate professor of geoscience, will present “When Night Becomes Day: Light Pollution in Winona” at 7 p.m. Following the talk, solar scopes and telescopes will be available for viewing the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and other deep sky objects. There will be activities for children of all ages and opportunities to learn about and touch meteorites.
In the case of cloudy weather, Anderson’s talk will still start at 6 p.m., and the event will conclude after the talk.
The event is free and open to the public.
