Winona State University students provided educational outreach to local elementary students as part of “Chemistry Demonstration Day” this spring.
The event was designed to teach elementary students about the concepts of chemistry and was part of a class project for the course Chemistry 475.
Forty local elementary students and teachers from Winona Bluffview Montessori School visited WSU Feb. 7. Members of the Chemistry 475 course led a tour of the Science Laboratory Center and gave about 30 different demonstrations involving magnets, electrochemistry, acid-base reactions, and change of states. Information regarding how chemists are educated at WSU and chemistry laboratory safety procedures was also shared.
This event was made possible through support from a WSU Foundation Special Projects grant.
