Winona State University will host the art exhibit “From Neither Here Nor There” by artist Raoul Deal Feb. 17 through March 12 in the Paul Watkins Art Gallery.
Deal is an interdisciplinary artist and educator who often works collaboratively in community settings. He is on faculty in the Art Department at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Peck School of the Arts and Artist-in-Residence for UWM’s Cultures and Communities Program.
When it comes to his work Deal explains, “I often work in collaboration with other artists, and with community members. This interaction has led me to consider perspectives I wouldn’t otherwise explore. Since I work with people from different cultural, social, academic and intellectual communities, I’m often straddling several different realities. I embrace the vertigo. I want to be transformed by the process.”
An artist talk with Deal will be held 4-5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, in the Science Laboratory Center, room 120. A reception will follow from 5-6 p.m. in the Watkins lobby. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and Wednesdays 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
The exhibit is free and open to the public.
