Winona State University CLASP lecture series will host “The End of the Trail: Art or Artifact?” with Professor Chuck Ripley at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, in Stark Auditorium.
Ripley will address what motivates people to change the world they have inherited by exploring the problematic history of representations of dying Indians. He will center his discussion on Winona native James Earle Fraser’s statue “End of The Trail,” a replica of which is located on the WSU campus.
Ripley is associate professor of English at WSU and the chair of the Winona Human Rights Commission. His research focuses on the politics of religious poetry between 1688 and 1832, and his work on William Blake and Edward Young has appeared in multiple academic publications. Ripley was also the co-editor of “Reading and Editing William Blake.”
