Winona State University Department of Theatre and Dance presents Plastic Lemon Spikey Fish 12 noon Friday, Oct. 25, in Memorial Hall Dance Studio 300.
The dance movement is the newest work of Time Track Productions, performed by choreographer Paula Mann, Steve Paul and composer Eric Mason.
The piece follows individuals and groups as they try to create change in their slowly imploding world. It utilizes the ideology of surrealism and the power of change through groups.
Both Mann and Paul’s unique styles are displayed through their different movements. Mann focuses on generating energy from within and expressing feeling through releasing that energy into space. Paul focuses on the use of light and shadow and how images move through space.
Mann has been a choreographer for 33 years. She has expanded her dance background to include modern dance, ballet, video-animation, text, sound collage and physical theater to create an enjoyable experience for the audience.
Mann’s solo work has been performed throughout the U.S. and Canada. She has received several awards from the McKnight Foundation, the Jerome Foundation and others.
The performance is sponsored by a legacy grant from The Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council (SEMAC).
Prior to Mann’s performance, the Theatre and Dance Department will hold a Dance Improv Jam 8-9:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, in Memorial 300.
Both events are free and open to the public.
