The Winona State University Outdoor Education and Recreation Center will host a four-day outdoor pre-orientation program designed to welcome incoming students to WSU Aug. 17-20.
This unique opportunity gives students the chance to make connections with other new students, explore the outdoor recreation offerings of the Mississippi Rover Valley and move into the residence halls early. The program focuses on leadership and communication skills, and participants earn one semester credit hour before classes officially begin.
Studies show that incoming students who participate in outdoor orientation programs demonstrate increased first-year success, have a higher first-year retention rate and build solid peer relationships.
Activities include a three-day camping trip on the Black River, rock climbing, hiking, kayaking, canoeing and a challenging high ropes course. The cost is $350 per student.
