Winona State University College of Liberal Arts Dean Ralph Townsend will present “What Do We Mean By ‘Liberal Arts’?” at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, on the second floor of the Darrell W. Krueger Library.
Townsend will discuss how Winona State University’s general education requirements for liberal arts majors differ from private liberal arts colleges. He will also examine whether Winona State can or should aspire to a different definition of “liberal arts education.”
All WSU Athenaeum Series events are free and open to the public.
The Athenaeum hosts events that explore and enhance the intellectual life of the University and the region through lectures, readings, performances, discussions and other events. By bringing together scholars, performers, students and community members for intellectual discussion and the sharing of cultural experiences, the Athenaeum reflects the importance the University places on the humanities, the arts and the sciences.
